ISO 14001 is an international standard created to support the implementation of an environmental management system. Based on continuous improvement, this standard aims at integrating business practices and environmental goals such as elimination of pollution and reduction of wastes.
ISO 14001 registered locations have completed all audits and have been issued a certificate, and those that are recommended for registration have put all necessary systems in place to support the ISO standard and are awaiting final review by a registrar.
Facilities are audited at least once each year to maintain their ISO 14001 registered status and must pass a renewal certification audit every three years.
The International Organization for Standardization is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies from more than 140 countries, one from each country. The focus of ISO is to promote the development of standardization and related activities with a goal to facilitate the international exchange of goods and services, and to develop cooperation in the spheres of intellectual, scientific, technological and economic activity.
