Delphi Gets Closer to Reaching ISO 14001 Goals
Release Date: April 18, 2002
TROY, Mich. - Delphi (NYSE: DPH) announced today that 87 percent of its manufacturing sites are registered or recommended to the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) 14001 environmental specification. This puts the company closer to reaching its goal of registering all of its manufacturing plants to the ISO standard by the end of the year.
ISO 14001 is an international standard created to support the implementation of an environmental management system. Based on continuous improvement, this standard aims at integrating business practices and environmental goals such as elimination of pollution and reduction of wastes.
ISO 14001 registered locations have completed all audits and have been issued a certificate, and those that are recommended for registration have put all necessary systems in place to support the ISO standard and are awaiting final review by a registrar. Facilities are audited at least once each year to maintain their ISO 14001 registered status and must pass a renewal certification audit every three years.
"We are completely dedicated to instituting standardized practices throughout our worldwide operations to help protect the environment for our employees and their communities," said Glenn Howarth, director, Delphi Environmental Services. "We are already realizing significant improvements as a result of this commitment and the implementation of ISO 14001."
ISO is a global federation of national standard bodies, presently comprised of 127 members. The focus of ISO is to promote the development of standardization and related activities with a goal to facilitate the international exchange of goods and services, and to develop cooperation in the spheres of intellectual, scientific, technological and economic activity.
