Elia Named Director Worldwide PC&L for Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems

FLINT, Mich. -- Delphi Automotive Systems announced today the appointment of William P. Elia to director, worldwide production control & logistics, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems, effective immediately. Elia succeeds Gary Berndt, who resigned in September of 2001 to pursue opportunities outside of Delphi.
In his new role, Elia will be responsible for implementing lean material and information flow globally, optimizing inventory levels and championing 100 percent ship window compliance to the division's customers. He will be a member of the divisional executive staff and report directly to Guy C. Hachey, president, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems with a functional reporting relationship to Mark C. Lorenz, vice president, operations and logistics, Delphi Automotive Systems.
"Bill brings a wealth of manufacturing knowledge and logistical experience to this important position," said Hachey. "I know his proven leadership skills and PC&L background will lead him to success in this new role."

Prior to this appointment, Elia was manufacturing director for Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems'/Delphi-Delco Electronics Systems' Milwaukee Operations. Before that, Elia was plant manager for Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems' Anderson Operations in Indiana. He began his career in 1978 as an hourly employee at AC Spark Plug in Flint, Mich. He became a production supervisor at that facility in 1983. He was promoted to general supervisor, material and production control and transferred to El Paso, Texas in 1990. Elia returned to Flint in 1995 as general production supervisor and relocated to Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems' Wichita Falls Operations in 1998. Elia earned a bachelor's degree from Ferris State University in 1982.
Elia's successor will be named in the near future.
