MCHX^® Evaporator Wins Honor

Delphi's MCHX^® Evaporator debuted at the 2010 AHR (Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigerating) Expo, where it also received an AHR Expo Innovation Award.

The pioneering Delphi MCHX^® Evaporator was a winner of a 2010 AHR Expo Innovation Award in the Cooling category. The award was presented during the 2010 AHR Expo, held January 25-27, 2010, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

The Delphi MCHX^® Evaporator is a specially designed micro channel evaporator capable of performing both cooling and heating functions for indoor residential and commercial applications.

Significant Award for Innovation

"Our MCHX^® Evaporator is both highly efficient and more environmentally friendly when compared to traditional products."


	Because of its innovative design, Delphi's MCHX^® Evaporator can operate efficiently in both condensing (heating) and evaporating (cooling) modes.

Compact and Environmentally Friendly

Delphi is helping manufacturers of residential and commercial air conditioning/refrigeration systems change the way they are thinking about heating and cooling.

This highly efficient evaporator helps OEMs meet Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) requirements — all in a smaller package.

"The Delphi MCHX^® Evaporator cuts 40 percent of the mass of a competitive product, while still allowing OEMs to meet high SEER requirements. It also reduces the amount of refrigerant needed in the system," Clevenger said. "This all adds up to reduced costs for the OEM and a greener product for the environment."

Because of its small size, it is fully compatible with small, compact air handlers. The Delphi MCHX^® Evaporator is ideal for:

Residential air conditioning/heating — indoor units
Commercial cooling/heating — rooftop units
Refrigeration applications, including retail food storage and bottle cooling
Transportation (refrigerator trucks)

When operating in the cooling mode, the micro channel evaporator also functions as a dehumidifier, which can help provide conditioned air to the building space. Its micro channel design allows it to operate efficiently in both condensing (heating) and evaporating (cooling) modes.

The micro channel evaporator is based on Delphi's MCHX^® Heat Exchanger technology, which uses a unique micro channel design that makes it more efficient with regards to a heat transfer vs. volume basis. The system joins three key components — the flat micro channel tube, the fins, and two refrigerant manifolds — together in a single coil. The optimized coil design provides a high rate of heat transfer while maintaining low air-side pressure drop.

Like all of Delphi's MCHX^® heat exchangers, the evaporator is constructed from aluminum and is 100 percent recyclable.

Micro Channel Portfolio

Delphi is developing a portfolio of micro channel products that can be adapted to meet a wide range of real-world applications and can meet challenging heating and cooling needs. The Delphi MCHX^® Condenser is a highly efficient, compact heat exchanger suitable for outdoor cooling residential units, as well as chillers, truck transport, and bottle cooling applications. The coil condenses discharge gas and also provides liquid subcooling.
