Testing Services

The Packaging Validation Laboratory at the Delphi Mexico Technical Center (MTC) offers comprehensive testing services that simulate vibration and impact stresses on packaging to help product manufacturers and package designers construct sturdy containers that will adequately protect the contents of a package to avoid damage during transit and storage. Delphi's Packaging Validation Laboratory test operators use specially designed equipment to simulate a wide range of conditions and provide accurate data about packaging design tolerances.

The Packaging Design Laboratory is certified by the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) and all testing is performed according to ISTA and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards.

Capabilities

• Packaging Vibration Table simulates truck, rail and air in-transit vibration stresses on packaging:
• Random vibration created during any mode of transport
• Sinusoidal vibration instances of in-transit resonance
• Table size: 7 feet by 7 feet (2.1 meters by 2.1 meters)
• Payload capacity: 7,500 lbs. (3,400 kg.)
• Stroke: 4 inches (0.10 meters) 
• Frequency: 5 Hz to 200 Hz
• Packaging Transportation Simulator exposes product containers to shock and vibration conditions that can occur as a result of rough handling during loading and unloading:
• Vertical and horizontal movement measurement
• Elliptical motion measurement
• Table size: 7 feet by 8 feet (2.1 meters by 2.4 meters) 
• Payload capacity: 7,500 lbs. (3,400 kg.) 
• Packaging Incline Impact Tester reproduces rough forklift handling and rail car switching conditions on packages during shipping:
• Impact zone dimensions: 8 feet by 8 feet (2.4 meters by 2.4 meters) 
• Impact speed: Up to 7 mph (11 km/h)
• Barrier weight: 36,000 lbs. (16,325 kg.) 
• Dolly size: 7 feet by 7 feet (2.1 meters by 2.1 meters)
• Packaging Drop Tester simulates impacts on packaging produced during in-plant handling and warehousing:
• Payload capacity: 160 lbs. (72.5 kg.) 
• Packaging Compression Tester replicates vertical forces on packages to determine their load limits:
• Payload capacity: 20,000 lbs. (9,070 kg.) 
• Platen size: 4 feet by 5.5 inches (1.2 meters by 0.14 meters) 
• Opening height: 5.5 feet (1.6 meters)
