Delphi Magneto-resistive (MR) Sensors detect position, velocity and acceleration of metallic moving objects without physical contact. MR sensors use magnetic field changes that occur when metallic objects pass within close proximity of a permanent magnet. Advantages over optical and Hall-effect sensor techniques are inherent to magneto-resistive technology. MR sensors are used in variable temperatures and rugged environments and offer excellent response with less need for readjustment during operation.

MR sensors make use of magnetic field changes that occur when metallic compounds pass within close proximity of a permanent magnet. The field changes are observed to determine the properties of the object's motion. These small sensors are effective in observing linear as well as circular motion. Advantages over optical and hall sensor techniques are inherent to magnetoresistive technology. The MR sensors are well suited for variable temperatures and rugged environments.These sensors offer excellent response and significantly less need for readjustment when the system is jostled or vibrating. Longer life and easier, cost-effective replacement capabilities accompany their robust nature.

A number of packages, housings, and sensor designs can be used to optimize these versatile components for various applications. Delphi's simple planar geometry MR sensors can be manufactured easily and quickly with a variety of semi-conductors at reduced cost and increased reliability compared to other mechanical motion sensors. The ultra-thin MR sensor packages use a myriad of connected sensors on flexible circuit boards for increased design adaptability and functionality to process and integrate multiple signals.
