Meeting the demanding service environment of high speed reciprocating pumps has resulted in development of Delphi High Strength Alloys and Materials Processes with superior wear resistance and related process improvements. Two such aluminum alloys, one with copper and the other with tin, both having a high level of bismuth, are wear resistant, self lubricating and suitable for use in severe service components, even when poorly lubricated. The relatively high bismuth level in the alloy and the other elemental additions provide a low friction bearing surface. The aluminum alloy is suited for use in a socket plate of a ball socket joint, such as a compressor unit of an automobile air conditioning system.
Meeting the demanding service environment of high-speed reciprocating pumps has resulted in the development of high-strength aluminum alloys with superior wear resistance and related process improvements. There are two such aluminum alloys, one with copper and the other with tin. Both have a high level of bismuth and are wear resistant, self lubricating, and suitable for use in severe service components, even when poorly lubricated. The relatively high bismuth level in the alloy and the other elemental additions provide a low friction bearing surface. The aluminum alloy is suited for use in a socket plate or a ball socket joint such as a compressor unit in an automobile air conditioning system. The improved aluminum alloy minimizes wear and galling of the socket plate during use. In addition, the alloy strength and ductility properties permit swaging of the socket plate formed from the alloy around a balled end of a high-strength steel bearing member.
