Delphi Filter Elements Having Ferroelectric-Ferromagnetic Composite Materials

Delphi Filter Elements Having Ferroelectric-Ferromagnetic Composite Materials is a material innovation allowing for the design of compact and low cost electrical filters, in a variety of applications. This material possesses both capacitive and inductive properties for suppressing electromagnetic interference. Through a patented formulation and process, the composite material retains the distinct electrical properties of the individual constituent materials. As such, the material proves to be a highly effective filter against signal interferences in electronic applications, and suppression of electromagnetic/radio frequency interference.

This material innovation allows for the design of compact and low-cost electrical filters in a variety of applications. This material possesses both capacitive and inductive properties for suppressing electromagnetic interference. Through a patented formulation and process,
the composite material retains the distinct electrical properties of the individual constituent materials. As such, the material proves to be a highly effective filter against signal interferences in electronic applications and suppression of electromagnetic/radio frequency
interference (EMI/RFI).

Prototype devices have been used in multi-pin connector headers to provide EMI/RFI noise suppression in a simple, effective, and low-cost configuration. With proper metalization, surface mount and feedthrough filter elements have been fabricated with attenuation characteristics continuing into gigahertz frequencies.

The capacitive and inductive properties of the material provide the ability to implement a complex filter with fewer components and reduced circuit board space. The devices have been modeled using finite element analysis, and modeling results have shown agreement with device performance. Material preparation information and device models are available.
