The Delphi Plastic Optical Fiber Terminal and Termination Method process helps ensure a clean termination and a clear path for the optical signal with minimal distortion of the coupled light. The new terminal completely surrounds the cable and a small reservoir groove is designed into the inner sleeve of the terminal that permits high volume processing of fiber optic leads while maintaining rigid process tolerances.
A plastic optical fiber terminal and termination method helps overcome ease of connection and signal degradation problems inherent in existing termination methods. This process helps ensure a clean termination and a clear path for the optic signal with minimal distortion of the coupled light. This new terminal completely surrounds the cable. A small reservoir groove is designed into the inner sleeve of the terminal. As the plastic fiber material is melted during the finishing process, the excess reflowed fiber material is received into the groove, leaving a perfectly flat fiber surface. The terminal design permits high volume processing of fiber optic leads, while maintaining rigid process tolerances.
