Delphi Automotive Air Conditioning Fan Assembly

An automotive air conditioning assembly has a fan that is molded by a technique that inevitably leaves the lower hub and upper rim radially staggered relative to one another. The Delphi Automotive Air Conditioning Fan Assembly provides a fan housing with a wall portion specially shaped to provide air confinement that the missing section of the fan hub cannot. While offering significant improvements in cost, performance, and quality, this technology advancement provides stable fan assemblies for more efficient performance and air circulation.

Offering significant improvements in cost, performance, and quality, these technology advancements provide stable fan assemblies for more efficient performance and air circulation.

Typical Applications

Centrifugal Impeller/Fan A centrifugal blower impeller has wide, backwardly inclined blades that require the addition of a clocking ring to stiffen and stabilize the blade tips. This technology uses special notches and inter-fitting channels that allow the locking ring to simply be pushed down and onto the blade tips. this self-retaining without the need for extra assembly steps such as staking or welding. The side edges of the blade tip notches wedge against channel walls if the blade tip bends in either direction. The overall design provides a quieter, better performing impeller/fan.

Improved Fan Housing

An automotive air conditioning assembly has a molded fan that has its lower hub and upper rim radially staggered relative to one another. This leaves a substantial length of the blades' base edges unsupported by the incomplete hub. The air forces radially outward between the blades has no fan structure to confine it at that point. Delphi's fan assembly provides a fan housing with a wall portion specially shaped to provide air confinement that the missing section of the fan hub cannot.

Performance Advantages

  • Quieter, better performing impeller/fan assembly
  • More stable assembly
  • Simplified, cost-effective manufacturing
  • Maximized air confinement
  • Improved air circulation
  • Improved blower efficiency
