Typical Applications
Delphi Digital Speed and Position Sensors are designed for use with virtually any automotive control module that will accept a digital input. Typical automotive applications include engine (cam and crank: speed and position) and transmission (input and output speed).
Because they are designed for demanding applications, Delphi Digital Speed and Position Sensors are also well-suited for a wide range of non-automotive product applications.
Performance Advantages
Delphi Speed and Position Sensors feature silicon Hall sense elements. They utilize an adaptive threshold control scheme providing robust performance that improves the air gap capability and reduces the placement accuracy requirements between the sensor and the target.
The voltage supply and output signal capabilities of Delphi Digital Speed and Position Sensors are independent of the sense element. Some feature an open collector output that allows either internal or external pull-up, while others have a high state output equivalent to the sensor's internally regulated five volt supply. Both output configurations provide design flexibility for the controller manufacturer. Delphi also offers designs that help protect the sensor from transients and from electromagnetic interference (EMI). Power can be provided by either battery or regulated voltage supplies, enabling even more controller flexibility. Delphi's Digital Speed and Position Sensors can operate on conditioned voltage from 4.5 to 16 volts.
