Delphi Factory-installed Dual-beam Radar Back-up Aid is designed to help drivers detect obstacles behind their vehicles when backing. It also aids in tight parking situations. Automatically enabled when the vehicle is in reverse, Back-up Aid uses a 24GHz, dual-beam radar to monitor a 5-meter (16.4-foot) deep by 2.1-meter (6.9-foot) wide area behind the vehicle. Using a speed-sensitive algorithm, adaptive audible and optional visual alerts give the driver the information appropriate to driving conditions. When traveling at typical backing speeds (4.8 kph/3mph to 11.3 kph/7mph), imminent collision warnings and the 5-meter sensor range help provide drivers the time required to take action to avoid a backing accident. The system also provides distance information alerts that help make parking easier.

Delphi's Back-up aid is designed to supplement other safety practices by enhancing the driver's awareness of the area in the backing path of the vehicle. It is not designed to detect small objects, especially those that are low to the ground. There is always the possibility that an object in the detection zone may not be detected. Responsibility for vehicle control and safe operation of the vehicle remains with the driver.
