New Delphi Multec Gasoline Direct Injection

Delphi's new Multec® Gasoline Direct Injection (GDi) technology can help vehicle manufacturers meet today's challenges for improved power and torque, fuel economy, and reduced emissions.

Compared to conventional injection systems, GDi technology delivers fuel directly into the cylinder rather than the intake runner enabling more efficient and robust combustion. Engine performance is improved while fuel consumption and CO₂ "greenhouse gas" emissions are reduced. And, the components of the Delphi's GDi system are compatible with all ethanol-gasoline fuel blends.

Delphi can provide vehicle manufacturers with a complete high-quality, cost-effective gasoline direct injection system or individual components, including:

• Fuel Injectors that feature a highly atomized spray pattern for more complete combustion. They also offer lower noise, improved linear range and greater resistance to carbon deposits compared with competitive injectors. Delphi's family of GDi injectors includes:
  • Delphi Multec® 10 GDi Multi-Hole Fuel Injector for homogeneous combustion applications
  • Delphi Multec® 20 GDi Fast Single Coil Fuel Injector for spray stratified lean combustion systems. The Multec 20 offers a significant cost advantage compared with piezo injector technology.
• High Pressure Fuel Pump that is compact and customized to meet the manufacturer's packaging requirements. It can supply fuel at up to 200 bar. Delphi's family of single-piston high-pressure pumps includes the Delphi Multec® GDi High Pressure Pump with standard fuel flow rates and an available high pressure pump with higher fuel capacity for larger displacement engine applications.
• Stainless Steel Fuel Rail that offers robust material and design features to meet a wide range of high-pressure applications. The rail includes a pressure sensor to help engine management system guidance.
• Electronic Engine Control Modules with complete homogenous mode or spray stratified GDi engine management control. They also provide excellent flexibility to enable modification of algorithms to meet the vehicle manufacturer's requirements.
