Delphi Evaporative Emission Canisters help limit the amount of gasoline vapors normally created by fuel storage and fuel delivery from being released into the environment through an on-going process of adsorption and purging.
During adsorption, hydrogen molecules in gasoline vapors from the fuel tank enter the canister through a tank tube and are attracted to and stored on the surfaces of the carbon bed inside the canister. In purging, the manifold vacuum draws fresh air through the carbon bed, pulling the gaseous molecules into the intake manifold for combustion.
