Improving fuel efficiency, reducing powertrain emissions.

The global auto industry faces immense pressure to meet future regulations of 95g CO2/km in Europe by 2025 and 54.5 mpg in the United States by 2021.

While improvements in internal combustion engines and transmissions have resulted in significant emissions and fuel economy gains in recent decades, they cannot yet bridge the gap to meet these stringent goals.

To address this challenge, Delphi continues to develop a suite of automotive solutions that enable automakers to meet future stringent emission standards affordably, without sacrificing power or performance.

Paramount amongst these solutions is the 48-Volt (48V) Mild Hybrid system for gasoline and diesel engines. In 2016, Delphi commercialized its 48V architecture to deliver four times the power of conventional systems, delivering a 15 percent improvement in fuel economy.


Improving quality of life.

Imagine an elderly woman having the ability to use her phone to order a vehicle to pick her up at her door and deliver her to the train station, grocery store or doctor. Imagine having the ability to order a vehicle to avoid a 30-minute walk to the subway station in stifling heat or severe cold. What if any person – no matter where they were located – had the ability to request a vehicle that could meet any need, have it delivered anytime and anywhere ... all with no driver required?

These scenarios, and many more, could be made possible in the near future through Automated Mobility on Demand (AMoD), the movement of people and goods via an on-demand, automated vehicle platform.

In 2016, Singapore chose Delphi as its preferred partner to pilot AMoD in a section of the city-state in order to demonstrate:

  • A functioning fleet of fully autonomous vehicles
  • Cloud-based mobility-on-demand software
  • Urban, point-to-point, low-speed, autonomous, mobility-on-demand

The Singapore pilot is just the beginning.
Possibilities are expansive, including applications across urban and suburban vehicle sharing, autonomous bus or taxi services, logistics and long-distance truck platooning.
Delphi plans to launch pilots in North America and Europe in the near future.


Transforming mobility.

Delphi is one of a few technology suppliers in the world capable of developing fully integrated, automotive grade, end-to-end solutions that solve mobility’s toughest challenges.

As automated vehicle development continues to accelerate, Delphi remains a leader, with solutions that make transportation safer, more efficient, more affordable and more personal.

To date, the spotlight on automated vehicles has been primarily on safety and convenience benefits, rather than on efficiency or carbon dioxide reduction.

But consider this: Delphi is enabling a future where vehicles connect to everything (V2E) - other vehicles, roadways, pedestrians and infrastructure, such as traffic lights and parking structures. Meaning, autonomous vehicles will help reduce emissions by enabling more efficient driving patterns and avoiding repeated acceleration, braking and idling.

Another bonus: Users could be alerted to a prime parking spot that was just vacated, rather than driving around searching!
