Country Information

Australia, the "land down under," is truly one of the world's mysterious treasures as well as a major industrial power with a history of invention and innovation. The planet's smallest continent (and largest island), Australia is the world's leading exporter of coal, has vast reserves of many other mineral deposits, and has manufacturing concentrated in iron, steel, and engineering. Australians enjoy a stable and business-oriented government and a highly developed infrastructure. Many automakers have extensive vehicle production operations in Australia including Ford, Holden, Mitsubishi, and Toyota. A rich cultural heritage and high quality of life make Australia a highly satisfying career destination!

Delphi Presence

Delphi Australia launched its operations in 1984 after newly passed government legislation regulating vehicle emissions created a demand for the local production of catalytic converters. Delphi Australia quickly met those needs with proven emissions technology.

Today, Delphi Australia is one of the country's leading manufacturers of advanced automotive parts and accessories. With more than 200 employees, including approximately 50 on-site engineers, Delphi Australia has two manufacturing plants strategically located in the Melbourne suburbs of South Clayton and Somerton.

Delphi Australia has mature manufacturing facilities which support a diversified customer base and are cost competitive. Delphi is committed to expanding its presence in this strategically important market. Our global vision is "to be recognized by our customers as their best supplier." State-of-the-art facilities boast every convenience and tool necessary to safely and efficiently produce the high-quality products that have made Delphi one of the world's premier automotive suppliers.

Delphi Australia will continue to focus on initiatives to expand Delphi's presence, including enhancing the product portfolio offered to Australian customers, persisting to develop local expertise, and continuing to support our local and global customers. Products produced by Delphi Australia include:

  • Catalytic converters
  • Evaporative canisters
  • Exhaust catalysts
  • Fuel delivery modules
  • Fuel tanks
  • Steering columns
  • Steering gears

Some of our greatest milestones within the last two decades include being the number one domestic converter supplier, becoming the first manufacturer in the world to coat and can catalytic converters under one roof, and introducing the Total Fuel System (TFS) and rack and pinion steering gears production.

Delphi Australia's excellent quality reputation is recognized both nationally and globally as indicated by the receipt of an external customer award, including:
