Types of messages sent and received can easily be modified through an externally accessible serial interface. The Race Control Console transmitter can be customized for a given application. Dimming of the in-car caution light during night races can be controlled at the transmitter by race control personnel. The Delphi TCR3's increased processing and input/output performance make it capable of performing several motorsports and non-motorsports functions.
